An Ayurvedic Approach for the Treatment of Stress

Ayurveda says that stress is a state, where mind is not balanced and does not have the potential to act. There are three states or ‘gunas’ of mind, which are sattva (knowledge, purity), rajas (action, passion) and tamas (inertia, ignorance). When the mind is not stable, sattva reduces while rajas and tamas increase. As sattva decreases, mental strength and determination also reduces. Ayurveda is quite effective in managing stress related problems caused due to different reasons.

Managing Stress with Ayurvedic Therapies

There are several therapies in Ayurveda that help to expel harmful substances from the body and improve blood circulation thus, taking out all the negative vibes out of the mind and body which cause stress. Different Ayurvedic treatments offered by us to alleviate stress are:

Sirovasthi

It is a medicated oil therapy applied on the head to treat the conditions like mental stress and insomnia. In this therapy, a leather sleeve is tied on the head and medicated oil is filled into it for a certain amount of time.

Thalam

It is the perfect treatment for the conditions including stress where medicinal oil is applied over the head. The stress in today’s modern lifestyle has created many problems and Thalam is the therapy, which is meant to cure conditions like lack of memory, inability to concentrate, etc.

Ksheera Dhoomam

It is a fomentation process in which medicated cow milk is heated and the steam is passed over the face and tongue. This therapy aids in treating conditions like speech disorders, stress, neurological problems, etc.

Several other measures that can be adopted to relieve stress are as follows

Balanced diet

As stress reduces the body’s immunity, a balanced diet is beneficial in order to survive. You must avoid coffee, alcoholic drinks and add high protein foods in your diet plan. Ayurveda cares for the complete body and therefore recommends vegetarianism.

Relaxation

You must take short breaks from work and relax the mind. A Yoga posture called ‘Shavasana’ is a simple way to relax by breathing slowly.

Herbal treatment

Brahmi is an herbal medication that balances the two hemispheres of the brain. Yashimadhu is an herb used to increase the cognitive functioning of the brain by improving vision and memory related areas. Chandan cools down the mind by satiating Pitta dosha.
There is no denying in the fact that without a healthy mind, you cannot obtain a healthy body. So, come to us and we ensure to help you with alleviating your stress in an Ayurvedic way.
