Karnapoornam: An Effective Cleansing Therapy in Ayurveda

Filling medicinal oil into the ears is termed as Karnapoornam, a purification and detoxification treatment in Ayurveda. It helps in removing stress and illness-causing toxins from your body while balancing the three doshas. In this therapy, warm herbal oils and fumes are applied to the Karna (ears) for 5 to 10 minutes followed by a massage around the ears and jaw area. Consequently, it helps in loosening wax, relieving neck and jaw tension and reducing itching, headaches and earaches.

Karnapoornam is the method of healing ear problems with medicated oils. Bathing the ear in warm oil is calming and protects the nervous system. It begins with a vibrant head and neck massage, followed by a gentle massage to the ears. After that, ears are cleaned with cotton buds and herbal oil drops are poured into ears. When the cavity of ear is occupied with herbal oil, the patient is asked to rest so that oil gets absorbed completely.

This cleansing process is quite effective for deafness, humming of the ear, etc. It is directed for tinnitus, excess earwax, jaw pain, earache, impurities in ear canal, neck pain, ear infections and vertigo. Also, the therapy works on the whole body by enhancing the functionality of the endocrine glands.
