A 7-year-old male boy presented with complaints of multiple red spots on both lower legs for 2 months. On 25-02-2023, His parents noticed the sudden appearance of reddish discolouration on the skin, which was found to have increased significantly the following day. Then they consulted him with an allopathic physician and the Doctor did some blood tests The investigation reports have revealed Low Platelet counts around 9000. Then, on 27/02/23, the child was referred to Amrita Hospital where he was diagnosed with ITP and was put on Oral Steroids with vitamin supplementation for 1 week. The patient was discharged from the hospital after the platelet count reached 2 lakhs. Again on 22-03-2023, the reappearance of dark patches in both legs was found with a dropped platelet count of 22000. The patient was readmitted to the hospital and underwent another round of oral steroid treatment. and discharged from the hospital when his platelet count reached to the level of 4 lakhs. On 17-4-23 platelet count again came down to 87000 and Dr advised taking 10mg prednisolone on alternate days.
Again, the same scenario was repeated two or three times. His family was very worried about his condition as he was not getting better even on a heavy dose of medication. Later they found out that better treatment for ITP was available at SSANH. Then they visited Dr. Sanand at the hospital and the Doctor prescribed medicines along with the Diet chart. Within 2 weeks of treatment, the platelet count started increasing. The doctor slowly reduced the amount of steroid the patient was taking. After 3 months of treatment his platelet count increased significantly and remained stable thereafter. The parents were very relieved to see this. They were happy to see that the problem they’d been struggling with for quite some time was completely solved upon their arrival at the hospital.

In adults, normal platelet concentration is between 150,000 and 450,000 mm3.ITP may be acute or chronic.
