The district Consumer court has imposed Rs 5,000 cost besides directing a mediclaim insurance company to pay Rs 14,453 to a Khed resident for wrongly rejecting his claim on the grounds that he was treated for typhoid by an ayurveda practitioner instead of an allopathic doctor. The bench of V P Utpat and Kshitija Kulkarni held on June 28 that the complainant’s claim could not have been repudiated in view of a May 28, 2007 letter by the state government that permits ayurveda practitioners to practice allopathy.
